Where to Buy Niche Fragrance in Melbourne CBD

Jul 8, 2026by Khrisha Perfumery

Melbourne's CBD has quietly become the best square kilometre in Australia for smelling rare perfume on skin. Department-store counters, single-brand boutiques and independent niche floors all sit within a short walk of each other. This is a working map of who stocks what, and how to use an afternoon in the city properly.

Khrisha Perfumery — Collins Arcade, Collins Street

Our own floor, inside Collins Arcade on Collins Street. The shelves lean toward houses most of the country still cannot smell in person: Gritti, Kajal, The Spirit of Dubai, Spirit of Kings and Nishane, with an open tester bar and 3ml samples of most active releases to take home. Hours and directions are on the locations page.

How to sample properly

Skin, not paper strips, decides a purchase at this price point. Two fragrances per wrist per visit, maximum. Let each live through a full drydown — six hours, ideally overnight — before judging. Every serious floor in the city will make you a sample or sell you one; a $25 sample that saves a $500 mistake is the cheapest insurance in perfumery. Our discovery sets exist for exactly this.

Questions we get asked

What is the difference between niche and designer fragrance?

Distribution and brief. Designer houses build for mass appeal and department-store shelves; niche houses build for a specific idea, released in smaller volumes through specialist retailers. Neither is automatically better — but niche is where the strange, beautiful outliers live.

Can I smell before I buy?

Yes. Every fragrance on the Khrisha floor is open for testing, and samples of most active releases are available to take home.
